Statistics

Statistics on the prevalence of HIV/AIDS worldwide help to illustrate the enormous impact this disease is having around the world. However, such statistics are exceedingly difficult to collect. In many developing countries, where AIDS is most widespread, systems are not yet in place for statistical tracking. While this situation is improving, often estimates and ranges must be relied upon.

Despite these challenges, these numbers serve an important purpose: helping to frame a picture of how devastating this pandemic has become around the world.

The statistics that follow were collected primarily by UNAIDS and the World Health Organization.
