AIDS Walk or Ride Our AIDS Walking and Cycling events are just as unique as our Breast Cancer Events, in that you can choose to either Walk or Ride for the week. You can also choose who you want to raise money for. You can choose our beneficiary, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation or you can choose your own beneficiary. Past Participants have chosen such organizations as, God's Love We Deliver, Project Inform, Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Institute and the AIDS Foundation of Chicago, just to name a few of the many organizations our participants have supported. Visit our beneficiary page for a more complete list of benefiting organizations. |
Breast Cancer Walk or Ride Our Breast Cancer Walking and Cycling events are just as unique as our AIDS events. Who says you can only Walk for Breast Cancer? We let you decide what you want to do; you can either Walk or Ride. You can also decide where your donations go, you can choose our Breast Cancer Organization, Breast Cancer Network of Strength or you can choose your own beneficiary. Past participants have chosen such organizations as the Susan G Komen For the Cure, the National Breast Cancer Organizations, Circulo de Vida, and many other organizations. |
Have you ever wanted to do something, SOMETHING BIG, for Breast Cancer or AIDS, but did not want to sleep in a tent, shower with thousands of other people or spend a week using a port-a-jon? Then this just might be the event for you!
After 17 long-distance cycling and walking fund-raisers we have done it all and I can't tell you how many times we were woken up in the middle of the night by the sound of slamming port-a-jon doors or stood in line to take a cold shower. Then sitting next to a glacier, on the Alaska AIDS Vaccine Ride, it occurred to me... You don't have to sleep in a tent, shower in a truck, or stand in line for a meal to raise money to prove you're committed to your cause... What you have to do is put in the miles. So, in 2001 we started organizing trips that are part-fundraiser and part-vacation, in places like Amsterdam, Italy, Spain and Ireland.
We stay in one central location for the week, usually a castle or villa, and make day trips into the countryside. Every morning we'll wake to a hearty breakfast and not the sound of people breaking down tents at 5am. Every afternoon lunch will be served alfresco along the route or in local taverns and each night we'll enjoy gourmet dinners prepared by the castle staff using only the freshest of local ingredients and served on real plates with real silverware. When its time for bed we will make our way to the bedrooms, and sleep on comfortable beds with the finest of linens and share a bathroom with only your roommate!
Because this is part-fundraiser and part-vacation there are some differences with how things work... First there is a "Registration Fee" (cost of the trip) this pays for some or even all of your expenses so your donors are not paying for your vacation. This Registration Fee is lower than that of a conventional cycling or walking vacation, because this is part-fundraiser. Next we ask you to do some fund-raising for your beneficiary. If you don't want to do any fund-raising, just pay a little higher Registration Fee (what would be the average cost of a trip of this type) and you'll receive a tax deduction at the end of the year!
If this sounds as exciting to you as it does to us, then we invite you to read on and use the links on the left to learn more about us and the trips we have planned for 2010.
